The characterisation of the steady-state and dynamical properties of systems driven out of thermal
equilibrium has been a subject of intensive theoretical and experimental studies for many years. Unlike
their equilibrium counterparts, no general theoretical framework exists within which such properties
of non-equilibrium systems could be analyzed. Nevertheless, considerable theoretical progress in
understanding various aspects of non-equilibrium systems has been made during the last two decades.
This seminar aims at bringing together leading researchers (both theorists and experimentalists) and
young scientists from different subfields of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics where intimate
connections are presently emerging. The main themes to be covered are large deviations long-range
correlations and extreme events in stochastic many-body systems.
