Experiments at FLASH

Christoph Bostedt

Technische Universität, Berlin, Germany

I will start my lectures with an introduction to accelerator based x-ray sources with a special focus on the FLASH free electron laser. I will then review selected recent experiments at FLASH in the high power density regime. The discussion will start with investigations about the photoeffect at ultra-high intensities and (two color) multiple-photon ionization. Then the ionization dynamics of larger systems, i.e., atomic clusters will be discussed and first single-shot scattering experiments on such nanometer sized systems will be introduced. Finally, strategies for future time-resolved experiments will be summarized and visions for the upcoming hard x-ray sources will be reviewed.
