Accompanying persons and children

Spouses and children of scientists working at the MPIPKS receive permission to stay in Germany. Provided the scientist coming to work at the Max Planck Institute is entitled to get a valid visa from a German embassy or consulate, see Visa, the procedure is fairly easy. Every accompanying family member also needs a separate visa for entry.

Financial support for spouses and children accompanying a scientist who is working at the MPIPKS is possible in case they stay longer than six months.

Nationals requiring no visa procedure to come and work in Germany can also bring their family with minimum formalities.

If a visa is required for your working visit in Germany, these are the major prerequisites for entry and residence of guest scientist's family members. Family members must have
* a valid passport
* proof of sufficient financial means of subsistence including means to pay a health insurance. The Max Planck Society is able to offer limited financial support for accompanying spouses and children under certain conditions.
* if proof of sufficient financial means is produced, an invitation letter for the guest scientist can mention an explicit statement regarding the family members. This is considered to be sufficient proof in the visa application process
* marriage certificate or other proof of an existing matrimony considered valid under German law.
