Due to their force-free nature, phoretic transport mechanisms can be used to design self-propelled active colloids. In my talk, I will describe a particular class of such active colloids that self-propel and interact via temperature gradients that they generate. They exhibit interesting collective effects such as instabilities and emergent dynamical behaviors.
