We address the wetting phase diagram of complex fluids. We focus on two classes of such fluids: structured and orientationally ordered fluids. Using mesoscopic (Landau type) theories for structured (equilibrium polymers, microemulsions, patchy colloids) and ordered(nematic liquid crystals) fluids we discuss the wetting phase diagram on various surfaces. The interplay of length scales leads to novel results for the stable wet phases, even on structureless substartes. On structured substrates nematic wetting and filling may be suppressed through the nucleation of topological defects which dominate the switching dynamics between filled states.
