Non-hermitian complex scaled QED treatment of spontaneous emission phenomena

The phenomenon of spontaneous emission is analyzed within the framework of non-hermitian quantum mechanics. The process of de-excitation of an atom accompanied by ejection of a photon is interpreted as decay of a resonance state. It is shown that such a resonance state can be studied using the well established method of complex scaling applied on the momentum of the outgoing photon. An illustrative numerical calculation is presented for a simple model problem.
